Book of Esther – Week 8 – Day 3

October 22, 2014

Esther 9: 1-10

The thirteenth day of Adar came, the day on which the royal proclamation was to take effect, the day when the enemies of the Jews were hoping to get them in their power. But instead, the Jews triumphed over them. In the Jewish quarter of every city in the empire the Jews organized to attack anyone who tried to harm them. People everywhere were afraid of them, and no one could stand against them. In fact, all the provincial officials- governors, administrators, and royal representatives- helped the Jews beacuse they were all afraid of Mordecai. It was well known throughout the empire that Mordecai was now a powerful man in the palace and was growing more powerful. So the Jews could do what they wanted with their enemies. They attacked them with swords and slaughtered them. In Susa, the capital city itself, the Jews killed five hundred men. Among them were the ten sons of Haman son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews: Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai and Vaizatha. However, there was no looting.

Psalm 71: 13

May those who attack me be defeated and destroyed. May those who try to hurt me be shamed and disgraced.

The  Jews defended themselves and their enemies were defeated. God kept his promise and protected his chosen people. Those that plotted against the way of the LORD were punished.

The day of judgement will come and the wicked and evil who have plotted against you will be punished.  There is no need to plan your own revenge against their evil doing. GOD will take care of them.

Dear GOD,

teach me how not to be quick to judge and also restrain me from having negative or evil thoughts about others as it is not in your plan. You will deal with them in your own time for their bad/evil actions. Help me remain on the path of righteousness and purity.
