Advent Study – Week 4 – Day 3

December 24, 2014

2 Sammuel  11: 2-5,  26-27

One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (Now she was purifying herself from her monthly uncleanness.) Then she went back home. The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, “I am pregnant.”

26 When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him.27 After the time of mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing David had done displeased the Lord.

The lord was displeased with the pair for disobeying him. Both of them gave in to their lust and had an affair. Nothing good comes out of  giving in to worldly pleasures.

Bathsheba’s husband was killed due to her wrongdoing. She paid for her “crimes” through the lost of her husband and death of a child. She was given a 2nd chance to have a child with her new husband. Both of them learned from their wrong doing and made amends for their mistakes.  They were blessed with another child.

Dear GOD,

thank you for all the 2nd chances that you have given me. The opportunities to learn from past mistakes and grow more wise in my ways.
